Lack of TV coverage set to damage betting turnover on US PGA Championship
Fourth Major moves exclusively to Eleven Sports from BBC and eir Sport
Justin Thomas warmed up for his defence of the US PGA Championship in fine style with victory in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational but the lack of TV coverage of the final Major of the season could be disastrous for bookmakers' turnover at the Bellerive Country Club.
British and Irish punters will need to scramble around to find coverage with the event moving exclusively to Eleven Sports from the BBC and eir Sport.
Eleven Sports will broadcast the tournament on their website, app and Facebook page, and punters can catch all four rounds of the tournament for free with a seven-day trial.
However, asked whether the move could damage betting on the championship, Rupert Adams of Hills said: "First of all when I looked this morning I could not believe how little money had been bet on the US PGA.
"Obviously terrestrial is key. If you don’t get terrestrial, then Sky is very important. If you haven’t got either, I think it could be an absolute disaster. If a sport is on television it does much better than if it is not. Five Live covering it on the radio might save the day.”
Dustin Johnson heads the market for the US PGA Championship at a best-priced 10-1 while Rory McIlroy is 12-1 and it's 14-1 Thomas. Brooks Koepka, Jason Day, Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler are all available at 22-1.
Steve Palmer's US PGA Championship advice and our final Major package will be available digitally from 8pm on Tuesday
