Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have the chance to claim a seventh successive AFC West title and lock in a playoff spot with a win over the Houston Texans and a 14.5-point spread suggests the outcome is a foregone conclusion.

The Chiefs are rolling, having won six of the last seven, while a last-gasp loss to the Dallas Cowboys made it eight straight defeats for the Texans, who have been left counting the costs of that reverse.

Houston lost several offensive starters to injury in that game, including excellent rookie running back Dameon Pierce, further limiting an offence that ranks 31st in DVOA and hadn’t put up more than 20 points in six straight games before last week.

With far bigger games on the horizon, don’t expect the Chiefs offence to pull out all the stops when facing a Houston defence that’s performed admirably in recent weeks. Patrick Mahomes and co are unlikely to need to get out of second gear to clinch the division title, so pairing a Chiefs win with the under on the points total is a good option.

Philadelphia Eagles at Chicago Bears

With a playoff spot in the bag and a NFC East title decider on Christmas Eve against the Cowboys to come, the Philadelphia Eagles can be forgiven for looking past the lowly Chicago Bears.

On paper, a Bears team riding a six-game losing streak pose very little threat, but in quarterback Justin Fields Chicago have a sizeable ace up their sleeve.

The Eagles have had a few issues containing mobile quarterbacks and Fields’ ability to hurt teams can make trouble for Philadelphia.

The Bears' rushing attack, which is averaging over 210 yards per game on the ground at home this season, is also a threat to an Eagles side who are 2-4 against the spread on the road.

Throw into the mix underdogs of nine or more points going 12-4 against the number since November and there’s plenty to like about opposing a potentially distracted Philly team.

New England Patriots at Las Vegas Raiders

This game opened with the Las Vegas Raiders as 2.5-point underdogs, and while that early value has gone, there’s still enough to like about the Black and Silver’s chances to back them.

The line has flipped largely as a result of New England’s injury news with an already underwhelming offence likely to be shorthanded in Sin City.

The Patriots' main weapon is their rushing attack but with their two first-choice running backs, Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson, both doubtful, its tough to see how they hurt a Raiders defence that has held up well against the rush this year.

This is a must-win for the Raiders if they are to have a shot at making the playoffs and a response is expected after their late collapse against the Los Angeles Rams last time out.

Las Vegas have won three of their last four at home and are getting some key pieces on offence back this week, elevating them several levels above the Patriots’ pop-gun attack.

Tennessee Titans at Los Angeles Chargers

These two teams are locked together at 7-6 in a congested AFC playoff picture, setting the stage for a crunch clash in LA, where Chargers’ wide receiver Mike Williams could have a big say in the outcome.

Quarterback Justin Herbert’s return to form has led to the Chargers becoming the NFL’s most pass-happy. No side have averaged more passing yards than the Bolts over the last three weeks, making Williams’ return from injury a timely one.

Williams had 116 receiving yards and a touchdown against the Miami Dolphins in his comeback game last week and has now had more than 65 yards in five of his nine appearances in 2022.

As a big-bodied wide receiver, Williams matches up well with a Titans defence that has been physically dominated by offensive players of that type and is set up nicely for a strong showing.
