The Super Bowl attracts new viewers to the NFL each year and understandably many of the new arrivals will want to know about the different ways you can bet on the big game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

As you would expect, markets on who will win, how many points will be scored and which players will score touchdowns on the biggest stage of them all are available but there is a multitude of other options too from every detail of each player's performance through to the length of the national anthem and the colour of the Gatorade that will be thrown over the winning coach.

Below, we'll explain what each Super Bowl market means and how to bet on each one. With the big game not kicking off until 11.30pm GMT on Sunday, February 9, you've got plenty of time to get up to speed.

How to bet on the winner of Super Bowl LIX

The simplest Super Bowl LIX market is the match odds market, often called the Money Line in the United States.

This is a bet on which team you think will win, with the Kansas City Chiefs currently the 4-5 favourites, which means you would make a profit of four pounds for every five staked if they are successful, while the Philadelphia Eagles are 21-20, which means their backers would earn £21 for each £20 staked if they win.

How to bet on the points total in Super Bowl LIX

If you're not confident which team you think will win, but you have a stronger opinion on whether the game will be low-scoring or high-scoring, the total points market could suit you.

Oddsmakers set a line for the game, which is 49 points at the time of publishing, and if you think 48 or fewer points will be scored, you can back under 49 points at 10-11, or similarly, back over 49 if you think the teams will combine to score 50 or more points.

Five of the last six Super Bowls have gone under the expected total, although last year's game between the Chiefs and 49ers barely went under as 47 points were scored when the line had been 47.5. The exception in that sequence was the previous Super Bowl clash between the Chiefs and Eagles, which produced 73 points two years ago, going way over the expected line of 51.5 points.

How to bet on touchdown scorers in Super Bowl LIX

In the same way that goalscorer bets are a popular market for football matches, you can bet on which players score the first touchdown or reach the end zone at any time in the Super Bowl.

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is the favourite at 7-2 to score the first TD of the game and is 1-2 to score at any time. New bettors should also note that on receiving plays, only the player that catches the pass is credited as the touchdown scorer, not the quarterback, although QBs can still cash bets in this market if they score a rushing touchdown, or on the rare occasions when they catch a pass – as the Eagles' Nick Foles did on the famous 'Philly Special' play in the 2018 Super Bowl.

How to bet on the MVP award for Super Bowl LIX

The MVP award is won by the Most Valuable Player of each Super Bowl, which is voted on by a panel of writers and broadcasters (whose votes account for 80 per cent), with a viewers vote worth 20 per cent of the final tally.

The quarterback of the winning team has been successful in four of the last five years, with Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes winning in 2020, 2023 and 2024, but wide receivers Julian Edelman (Patriots, 2019) and Cooper Kupp (Rams, 2022) have also won.

How to bet on prop bets for Super Bowl LIX

Over/under lines are available for offensive players in every aspect of their performance, such as pass attempts, completions, passing yards, touchdown passes, interceptions, longest pass and so on for quarterbacks, rushing yards, rush attempts and longest rush for running backs and receiving yards, receptions and longest reception for receivers.

Defensive players get their own categories, with tackles, sacks and interceptions totals for players available to bet on.

There are also game props, such as the number of points scored in each quarter, the winning margin, the correct score (which is vastly more difficult to pin down than for a football match!) and the total yards gained, total sacks, first team to ten points, number of fumbles and number of field goals scored etc.

What novelty markets are there for Super Bowl LIX?

It's not just the match itself that can be bet on at the Super Bowl, with many bets settled even before kick-off due to markets on the coin toss and the length of the national anthem. The half-time show also offers betting opportunities for the non-sports expert with odds on which song half-time act Kendrick Lamar will sing first.

Bet365 even have a whole range of specials based on Taylor Swift song titles, such as Electric Touch, for Swift's boyfriend Travis Kelce of the Chiefs to score a touchdown with his first reception, which is 18-1.
