This week's NFL TV game predictions

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Commanders predictions

Last week the Eagles offence finally gave the people what they wanted – a semblance of a successful passing game – and they will hope for something similar against the Washington Commanders.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts linked up with AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith on several occasions, which led to a dominant showing against a usually stout Pittsburgh Steelers defence.

The 26-18 final scoreline in November's meeting was a lot closer than it should have been and the Eagles would probably have won by a greater margin had they not missed two first-half field goals.

Philadelphia outgained the Commanders by nearly 200 yards, averaging nearly six yards per carry and rushing for well over 200 yards. It was total domination on the ground and it could more of the same in Sunday's rematch.

Washington’s defence ranks poorly against the run but the bigger issue for the Commanders is how their offence has been performing.

For all Jayden Daniels' brilliance, the Commanders lack physicality up front or the capability on the outside to challenge an Eagles secondary that is playing like the best defensive unit in the league at present.

Sunday's game is likely to be defined by ball control and long possessions, which favours Philly, who should cover a small handicap on the road.

Minnesota Vikings at Seattle Seahawks predictions

A lot of injury uncertainty surrounds Minnesota's trip to Seattle, but it's hard to have much faith in the Seahawks given how poor their offence looked against Green Bay last week.

Quarterback Geno Smith has been under duress all season long and the dam finally broke in last week’s 30-13 loss to the Packers when he was forced to leave the game with a knee injury.

Smith is expected to face the Vikings on Sunday but he missed practice this week and his mobility may still be impacted.

Minnesota, meanwhile, have taken advantage of an easy schedule over the last few weeks, moving to 12-2 to sit level with the Detroit Lions at the top of the NFC North.

Kevin O’Connell and his coaching staff continue to get the most out of quarterback Sam Darnold and his offence featuring Aaron Jones, who could find room to run against a rush defence which struggled to stop Josh Jacobs last week.

Justin Jefferson has scored three touchdowns over the last two weeks and will also create problems for Seattle.

Expect Minnesota to cover a modest handicap line at Lumen Field.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Dallas Cowboys predictions

After last week's dominant win as underdogs against the Carolina Panthers, bookmakers are showing Dallas much more respect for their clash with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dallas's defence controlled proceedings against Carolina, capitalising on a litany of offensive mistakes by the Panthers, while their own offence also took advantage of one of the league’s worst defences, racking up 410 yards.

However, their poor home form has to be a concern against an in-form Buccaneers.

Dallas have won only one game at AT&T Stadium, a closely fought victory against arguably the NFL’s worst team, the New York Giants, at Thanksgiving.

Otherwise, they’re 1-6 at home with a points difference of minus 17, while the Bucs are on a roll and earned a fourth straight win with last week's 40-17 demolition of the Chargers.

They’ve outscored their last four opponents 124-60, and while they haven't faced elite teams in that run, they are top of the NFC South and will expect to stay there given their schedule.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield is in a groove, wide receiver Mike Evans is playing at an elite level, running back Bucky Irving is explosive and productive, and their defence is playing as well as it has all season.

Joe Casey's Week 16 best bets

Best money line bet

San Francisco 49ers
1pt 10-11 general

The Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers have been two of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season and their Week 16 encounter is a pick 'em affair.

The 49ers have had ten days of rest since their last outing, a 12-6 defeat to the Rams, while the Dolphins have had only a week to regroup after a 20-12 loss to the Texans and will be without injured receivers Jaylen Waddle, Dee Eskridge and Grant DuBose.

Both teams' playoff hopes are hanging by a thread but it could be San Francisco who pick up a crucial win against their former coach Mike McDaniel.

Best handicap bet

Detroit Lions -6.5
2pts 10-11 general

Detroit suffered just their second loss of the season against Buffalo last week but the Lions can roar back in style against their NFC North rivals Chicago.

The Bears have been dismal all season long and face the Lions on an eight-game losing streak.

In a further boost to Detroit's prospects, wide receiver Amon-Ra St Brown and left tackle Taylor Decker could both feature after they had been injury doubts earlier this week.

The Lions, who are aiming to claim top seeding in the NFC, are 4-1 against the spread as a favourite on the road and can enhance that fine record by defying a six-and-a-half-point handicap on Sunday.

Best points bet

Under 43.5 points in New York Giants at Atlanta Falcons
2pts 10-11 Paddy Power, Betfair

Atlanta have finally made the decision to move on from veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins and have handed the reins to rookie Michael Penix Jr for their crunch clash with the New York Giants.

The Falcons are 1-4 in their last five games and have tasked Penix Jr with keeping their post-season hopes alive.

But Atlanta have scored just 72 points in their last five matches and their new quarterback may take some time to get up to speed.

The Giants have scored seven, 20, 11, and 14 points in their four games since releasing QB Daniel Jones and a low-scoring affair looks the likeliest outcome at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Best prop bet

Davante Adams anytime touchdown scorer

The New York Jets have been much improved since their elimination from the post-season reckoning was confirmed, and the fledgling relationship between Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams has been a contributing factor.

The veteran duo are finally healthy and have been combining well in recent weeks – Adams has scored four touchdowns in his last three games and has been targeted ten or more times by Rodgers on each occasion.

The pair could join forces to great effect once more against a Rams’ defence which ranks 29th in the league in opponent yards per pass attempt.
