Three things we learned...

1Peru are a better side than Denmark
The result said otherwise but this interesting encounter did not produce a fair scoreline as Peru dominated the stats apart from the one that matters most.

Peru won the shot count 17-10, on-target shots were 6-3 and possession was 53-47, but ultimately it counted for nothing with Christian Cueva's first-half missed penalty proving costly as Yussuf Poulsen gave Denmark victory with a breakaway goal in the second half.

Both teams went into the contest unbeaten in 15 games with only one place between them in the Fifa rankings, The betting hinted at a close contest but with a bit more fortune Peru could have won the game, never mind taken a point.

2Lack of composure costs South Americans
Cueva's wild penalty miss highlighted a lack of calmness and there were other occasions when they got into excellent positions but failed to take advantage. There was also rotten luck with a shot cleared off the line and numerous near-misses, including Paolo Guerrero's backheel which went agonisingly wide of the post.

However, you have to make the most of your chances and in a rare moment when Christian Eriksen found space he delivered the perfect pass to feed Poulsen and break Peru's hearts.

3Injuries may hurt Denmark
It was a disappointing performance from Denmark despite the victory and they need to improve, which won't be easy following injuries to William Kvist and Andreas Christensen.
