This week's NFL TV game predictions

New York Jets at Minnesota Vikings predictions

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosts the first of three sell-out NFL games in London over the next three Sundays in Week Five as the New York Jets take on the unbeaten Minnesota Vikings and supporting the Jets on the handicap looks the best bet.

The Jets are underdogs as they need to bounce back from last week’s disappointing home defeat by Denver in a dour defensive battle, but they would conceivably have been favourites had Greg Zuerlein’s 50-yard field-goal attempt in the final minute been successful.

New York’s offence struggled against the Broncos but prior to that defeat, the Jets’ star quarterback Aaron Rodgers had been building a strong rapport with his receivers, while their backfield of Breece Hall and Braelon Allen is developing into one of the toughest double acts in the league.

Minnesota’s perfect start has been a feelgood story over the opening weeks but their defence showed signs of vulnerability against Green Bay last week, when they almost blew a 21-point lead, and the Vikings had allowed the most passing yards in the league after Week Four.

They may find that the Jets are not quite as accommodating as their first four opponents.

Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals predictions

Baltimore moved to 2-2 with a statement home win over previously undefeated Buffalo last week and the way the Ravens blasted past the Bills had some observers wondering if they are the best team in the NFL.

The Ravens are third-favourites to win the Super Bowl at 17-2 and would perhaps be shorter had they not lost a thriller to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week One.

After a slow start to the season John Harbaugh's team looked the business against the Bills as running back Derrick Henry had 199 rushing yards including an 87-yard touchdown and it’s hard to see Cincinnati keeping the Ravens grounded in their first AFC North showdown of the season.

The Bengals are probably better than a 1-3 team but they are finding ways to shoot themselves in the foot. Their only victory of the season was over a struggling Panthers squad after they put themselves in trouble with a 0-3 start.

Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers predictions

The San Francisco 49ers recovered from road defeats at the Vikings and Rams to defeat New England 30-13 at Levi’s Stadium last week, but it might be a little premature to suggest they have turned a corner.

The Patriots are a pretty poor side who have won just once and scored a paltry 52 points in the first four weeks.

Injuries to some key members of the San Francisco defence are also concerning and that could lead to a high-scoring encounter when they entertain Arizona.

Only two teams had conceded more points this season than the Cardinals going into Week Five and it’s hard to see how they will contain a 49ers offence which is averaging 413.3 yards per game.

The teams' last five meetings have produced 48, 48, 51, 51 and 74 points and there could be another half-century in this NFC West clash.

Dallas Cowboys at Pittsburgh Steelers predictions

The Cowboys and Steelers will complete the longest day in the NFL season to date on Sunday night, and the Steelers can continue their impressive start.

Dallas beat the Giants last week to improve to 2-2 but they had to work hard for it and with injuries to defensive stars DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons, plus wide receiver Brandin Cooks, they are not in great shape as they head to Pittsburgh.

The Steelers lost their unbeaten record when losing to the Colts in Indianapolis last week, but they gained 404 yards, their best effort of the season, and lost only 27-24.

Quarterback Justin Fields is finding his feet in the Steel City after having a tough time with the Bears and Mike Tomlin's team covered the handicap in the game that followed five of their seven losses last season.

The Cowboys' rushing game is struggling and with their defence missing key men, the Steelers are fancied to cover at home.

Phil Agius's Week Five best bets

Best money line bet

Denver Broncos to beat Las Vegas Raiders
2pts 4-6 general

The Broncos' defence rank joint-second in the league in yards allowed and that can again be the key to victory for them against an injury-hit Las Vegas Raiders side.

Denver beat the Jets last week despite rookie quarterback Bo Nix having just 60 passing yards but the depleted Raiders defence should be more accommodating.

The Raiders beat the out-of-sorts Cleveland Browns last week despite missing stars Davante Adams and Maxx Crosby but their injury list is now even longer and Denver can take advantage in Colorado.

Best handicap bet

Green Bay Packers -3
1pt 20-23 general

The Packers impressively won both the games they played while starting quarterback Jordan Love was injured only to lose to the Vikings when he returned last week.

However, Love shook off the rust in the second half of that 31-29 loss to their unbeaten NFC North rivals and should be capable of leading his team to victory against the 1-3 Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams won their only previous home game this season against the 49ers but are struggling defensively and have conceded at least 24 points in all four of their outings.

Best points bet

Under 36.5 points in Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots
2pts 10-11 general

Sometimes there are games for which oddsmakers can't realistically set a low enough line and the AFC East clash between the moribund offences of the Dolphins and Patriots is one of those.

These are the two lowest-scoring teams in the league and the Dolphins have scored ten, three and 12 points in their last three games, while the Patriots have scored only 16 in the last two weeks.

Best prop bet

Amari Cooper over 50.5 receiving yards for Cleveland Browns vs Washington Commanders
1pt 10-11 bet365

Amari Cooper was the focus of two key moments in the Browns' loss to the Raiders last week.

The first saw him spill a simple pass that led to an interception. He could have turned from zero to hero when it looked like he had later scored a brilliant 82-yard touchdown, but that was cancelled by a controversial holding penalty.

Cooper had 86 receiving yards against the Giants the previous week and could have a big day against the Commanders, whose games tend to be high-scoring.
