This week's NFL TV game predictions

Philadelphia Eagles at Cincinnati Bengals predictions

The Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals head into this Week Eight encounter on two-game winning streaks so an exciting game looks on the cards.

The Bengals have home advantage this week at the Paycor Stadium and that may help them over the line as they try to keep their playoff aspirations alive. Joe Burrow and co are 3-4, but three of those defeats were by five points or fewer.

Burrow has looked back to his best after a wrist injury ended his 2023 season early, and he has thrown 14 touchdown passes and just two interceptions this season.

While the Eagles are 4-2, they just scraped past the New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns and their last impressive win came in Week One against the Green Bay Packers. The Eagles beat the New York Giants 28-3 last weekend but that was expected and they have not been tested since they were beaten 33-16 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week Four.

Philadelphia will be competitive thanks to their talented offence but they will struggle to contain the Bengals on the road, especially given that Cincinnati have scored 21 points or more in five of their seven matches this season.

Chicago Bears at Washington Commanders predictions

Two teams trending in the right direction meet at the Northwest Stadium on Sunday evening as the Washington Commanders host the Chicago Bears.

The Bears were last in action in Week Six when they hammered the Jacksonville Jaguars 35-16 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Quarterback Caleb Williams threw four touchdown passes and he continues to improve each week in his rookie campaign.

Chicago have been able to rest and recuperate after their bye last week and they go into the game on a run  of three successive wins.

The Commanders crushed the Carolina Panthers 40-7 last weekend on home soil to make it five wins out of six and they did so without rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

He suffered a rib injury in the first few minutes, allowing backup Marcus Mariota to come in and steer them to a routine win.

Sadly, NFL fans may miss out on seeing the first and second picks of the 2024 NFL Draft go to battle but the Commanders fans will not care if they can wrap up another victory.

Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury has got the Commanders playing some fantastic football, but his team face a Bears defence that has allowed the fifth-fewest passing yards per attempt in the NFL.

Defensively, Dan Quinn's team look strong, keeping three of their last four opponents to 14 points or fewer. Chicago have ticked long with three successive wins, but their opponents during that run have a combined 5-15 record. Williams will be put under immense pressure on the road against a winning team and the Commanders can keep this game close and even win it, should Daniels prove his fitness.

Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers predictions

The San Francisco 49ers find themselves in the unfamiliar position of sitting fourth in the NFC West as they prepare to host the Dallas Cowboys this weekend.

The schedule-makers have not been kind to the 49ers, making them play the Chiefs and Cowboys after their bye weeks.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is 12-5 all-time and 3-1 against the spread as the Cowboys coach after a bye, and the 49ers go into the game following a 28-18 defeat to the Chiefs on home soil.

Injuries are starting to mount for the 49ers - wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is the latest  to suffer and unfortunately he will not return until next season.

San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan has his work cut out but he and his staff have built a professional roster and they may thrive under pressure on Sunday.

The 49ers are 3-4 for the season but with their bye coming up, they could improve their record and potentially get some key players back by the time they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week Ten.

Even though Shanahan's team are banged up and missing key personnel, they face a Cowboys team who have been woeful defensively. Dallas are 31st defensively for opponents' points per game and 24th for opponents' yards per game.

San Francisco can make a huge statement and give their fans something to smile about before resting up and trying to mount a playoff charge.

Tom Hill's Week Eight best bets

Best money line bet

Atlanta Falcons
3pts 3-4 Betfair

The Falcons can make a statement this weekend by beating NFC South rivals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Both teams are 4-3 for the season but the Bucs are without wide receivers Mike Evans and Chis Godwin. Those two are quarterback Baker Mayfield's more consistent assets and he will now have his work cut out. Atlanta have won both of their games on the road this season, and with little expected from the Bucs on offence, the Falcons can wrap up a routine win.

Best handicap bet

Green Bay Packers -4
3pts 10-11 general

The Packers look good value to cover the handicap this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars as they search for their fourth successive win.

Green Bay beat the Houston Texans 24-22 thanks to a walk-off field goal last week and that should give them a huge confidence boost ahead of this encounter.

Jacksonville's only wins have come against the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots, and they have conceded more than 24 points in four games this season.

Green Bay have been excellent at unsettling the quarterback this season and that has been an area of weakness for Jacksonville, so this game should only go one way.

Best points bet

Under 41.0 points in New York Jets at New England Patriots
3pts 10-11 general

The Jets beat the Patriots 24-3 in Week Three in their best performance of the season but it has been miserable viewing since then.

Gang Green have lost four in a row, with former coach Robert Saleh now out of the picture following a 23-17 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings.

The Jets have not scored more than 20 points in four weeks, and they face a Patriots offence who have yet to score more than 21 points this season, while there have been fewer than 30 points scored in the previous four encounters between the two AFC East teams.

Best prop bet

Breece Hall over 109.5 rushing and receiving yards
2pts 20-23 bet365

The Jets abandoned the run game too early in their 37-15 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, and they need to learn their lessons.

Breece Hall ran for 113 yards and caught five passes for a further 56 yards in the 23-20 defeat to the Buffalo Bills two weeks ago, and play-caller Todd Downing needs to use him properly this week.

Hall ran for 54 yards against the Patriots in Week Three, but he has proved time and time again that he can be a real weapon as a pass catcher in the back field.

The Patriots will need to cover wide receivers Devante Adams and Garrett Wilson, so expect Hall to find more space throughout the clash at the Gillette Stadium.
