NFL season predictions

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to become the first team in NFL history to win three successive Super Bowls, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is favourite to be named the league's most valuable player.

Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league, but Cincinnati Bengals ace Joe Burrow offers much more value in the MVP market at double the price.

Joe Cool missed the majority of last season with a wrist injury but he is fit and firing for his comeback.

The 27-year-old has been given extra protection this year, with the Bengals signing free agent Trent Brown, while they added fellow right tackle Amarius Mims in the first round.

Cincinnati have made moves to protect their quarterback, and their schedule is very favourable to start the campaign. Inside the first six weeks, the Bengals face the New England Patriots, Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers and New York Giants, and they proved last year they could dig in without their main man under centre.

Burrow has a point to prove and the Bengals' schedule should help him pad his stats in the first few months of the season.

While everything is looking rosy for the Bengals, Minnesota Vikings fans are bracing themselves for a brutal campaign.

Kevin O'Connell's team start the year against the Giants, but they then face the San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Detroit Lions.

Their next favourable match comes at the end of October, and to make matters worse, they've already lost QB JJ McCarthy for the season, meaning Minnesota's hopes are pinned on Sam Darnold. Tight end TJ Hockenson will also miss at least the first four weeks, so Minnesota may as well start planning for 2025.

The New York Jets are eager to make a statement in 2024 and running back Breece Hall can do that behind a revamped offensive line.

Hall, who bounced back from an ACL injury last year with 994 rushing yards and five touchdowns, will now be rushing behind Tyron Smith, John Simpson, Joe Tippmann, Alijah Vera Tucker and Morgan Moses.

His touchdowns line for the season looks a low at 7.5, and he has the potential to be one of the best backs in the game if the Jets line can keep him upright.
