LSU Tigers at Alabama Crimson Tide preview

Top-ranked Louisiana State Tigers roll into Tuscaloosa to take on the second-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in what has been entusiastically billed in places as the game of the century.

Both sides enter the contest with unblemished records of eight wins and no defeats, although LSU have come through a vastly stronger schedule.

The Tigers triumphed over Auburn two weeks ago, their third scalp of a top-ten team, while Alabama's only ranked opponents were 24th-ranked Texas A&M.

The storyline heading into this game is the fitness of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who had surgery on his ankle for the second consecutive season just three weeks ago.

The Tide have dominated this match-up, winning the last eight, including a 29-0 success on the road in Baton Rouge last season.

But this game looks to be much closer with Alabama just seven-point favourites at home.

The emergence of Joe Burrow at quarterback has been huge for LSU, who have lacked a star offence to match their commanding defences in recent years.

Statistically, the defences are well-matched with Alabama allowing an average of 307 yards a game, to LSU’s 315, but again, LSU have faced some strong offences and Alabama have not met anyone close to the talent of LSU’s offence. If Tagovailoa is not fully fit, they may struggle to keep up with the Tigers' offence.

Iowa State Cyclones at Oklahoma Sooners preview

Expect fireworks when the Oklahoma Sooners play host to the Iowa State Cyclones.

Both sides come into this game after a bye week, having lost two weeks ago despite being double-digit handicap favourites.

The Sooners lost their unbeaten record in a 48-41 thriller against Kansas State and will have to win the rest of their games this season emphatically if they have any chance of making the final four in the playoffs.

Despite their loss, the Sooners’ offence, led by Jalen Hurts, showed up once more and they still lead the nation in total yards and yards per play and have the fourth-most passing yards per game with 346.

Iowa State’s strength also lies on offence, boasting the sixth-best passing attack themselves with an average of 328.

Both teams have great success on chunk plays - deep throws, and long runs - and can score quickly.

Oklahoma has been particularly good at home under head coach Lincoln Riley, scoring an average of 51.5 points per game at the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, including 49, 70, 55 and 52 this season, and the Sooners faithful look set to see another explosive display.
