Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs predictions

Las Vegas Raiders +13 points

The Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders face off in the NFL's first Black Friday game at Arrowhead Stadium in an 8pm slot which is ideal for viewers in the UK and Ireland.

The Chiefs bounced back from their first loss of the season to beat the Carolina Panthers and improve to 10-1 last weekend, but the reigning Super Bowl champions are not blowing teams away and that could again be the case against the Raiders.

Kansas City needed a last-second field goal against the lowly Panthers, making for their least impressive victory in a series of underwhelming 2024 displays, and while Patrick Mahomes did a nice job distributing the ball to a number of pass-catchers, no player has really stepped up on a depleted offence.

Las Vegas quarterback Gardner Minshew is out for the season after breaking his collarbone in last week's 29-19 loss to the Broncos, although his absence is not a massive blow.

Replacement Aidan O’Connell is unspectacular but he isn’t a downgrade from Minshew. He played in 11 games last season and has taken the field four times in 2024, so he has plenty of experience.

At 2-9, the Raiders are comfortably the worst team in the AFC West, but just two of the Chiefs' ten wins have come by a double-figure margin and they haven't covered the spread in their last five games.

Under 40.5 total points

If the Raiders are going to keep the game close, it will probably be in a low-scoring affair because the underdogs are unlikely to be able to keep up with Mahomes and the Chiefs if this clash does develop into a shootout.

The Raiders lack offensive firepower. Rookie tight end Brock Bowers is an awesome weapon for O’Connell, but running backs Alexander Mattison and Zamir White are both injury doubts.

However, Kansas City continue to underwhelm on offence. Andy Reid’s team has not scored more than 30 points in a game this season so they're much more likely to need to grind out a victory.

Aidan O’Connell over 208.5 passing yards

While the Chiefs' defence is a strong unit, they have struggled against the pass, so it could pay to go over on O'Connell's total passing yards.

The Super Bowl champions have surrendered 15 touchdowns through the air while forcing just six interceptions, and they are also tied for the fifth-fewest sacks in the league (21), which is part of the reason why the secondary is having issues.

O'Connell exceeded this number seven times in 11 games last season and threw for 227 yards against a stout Pittsburgh Steelers defence last month.
