Houston Texans at New York Jets predictions

The New York Jets can't afford a Halloween horror show from their offence as they host the Houston Texans in their bid to snap a five-game losing streak on Thursday night.

The Jets have slumped to a 2-6 record, but the 6-2 Texans have problems of their own after losing their best two wide receivers to injury and it could lead to a low-scoring scrap at MetLife Stadium.

The Jets have already made two major changes in a bid to improve their fortunes, but firing head coach Robert Saleh and trading for wide receiver Davante Adams have not yet arrested their slide and they are 0-3 under interim coach Jeff Ulbrich.

The Jets were sloppy again when losing 25-22 to the Patriots last week as heavy favourites and this is a make-or-break game in their season.

The Texans are having to work harder for wins this year than they did in 2023 and quarterback CJ Stroud has been sacked 22 times and hurried more than any other quarterback. The Jets are good at getting to the QB and Stroud had a tough time at MetLife Stadium last year, completing only ten of his 23 pass attempts for 91 yards.

Stroud has been missing his leading wide receiver Nico Collins for several weeks, and the situation has become more serious this week with the loss for the rest of the year of Stefon Diggs due to a knee injury.

Both defences could be on top in this contest and the Texans may have to rely on their running game led by Joe Mixon, who has had three straight 100-yard games. That should keep the clock running and the score low, while Rodgers has been sacked 18 times and knocked down 34 times this season.

The Texans rank third in sacks and 8th in pressure-rate and this game could turn into a real grind.
