The Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers had vastly different experiences on Sunday but roles could be reversed when they clash in this pivotal Week 16 contest.

The Broncos beat the Colts and leapfrogged the Chargers in the conference standings after their AFC West rivals lost out to the Buccaneers.

However, the Chargers won the first meeting between these teams this season and will own the tiebreaker advantage if they can complete a clean sweep, which will go some way to securing one of the three AFC wild-card spots.

The Chargers had a game to forget on Sunday as their highly rated defence proved unable to stop the Buccaneers – Tampa Bay scored 40 points to the Chargers' 17 and chalked up 506 total yards as Jim Harbaugh's team had no answer to Baker Mayfield and co.

The Bolts' offence gained only 208 yards – by far their worst performance of the season – but that failure could serve as motivation for a Thursday Night Football clash with Denver.

While the Broncos won big on Sunday, beating Indianapolis 31-13, they were helped by a host of errors from the Colts including Jonathan Taylor's embarrassing goal-line drop when there were no opposition defenders within sight of him.

The Broncos were outgained 18-13 in first downs and 310-193 in total yards, so the emphatic scoreline was not an accurate reflection of the game.

Harbaugh’s teams are known for their discipline and professionalism and LA should produce a big response against a Broncos offence which is not nearly as explosive as Tampa Bay's.
