Match preview
The race for the playoffs in the AFC is reaching boiling point with both the Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots in the thick of the action.
Cincinnati’s post-season place is almost confirmed but they are locked in a dogfight with the Baltimore Ravens in the race to win the AFC North. Meanwhile, the Patriots are outside the wild-card places at 7-7 and need a victory to keep themselves in the mix.
The Bengals as road favourites look to be the team worth backing.
New England have lost three of the last four, suffering a devastating loss to the Las Vegas Raiders last time out when they completely botched the end of the game to allow Vegas to score a game-winning touchdown as time expired.
Patriots quarterback Mac Jones once again looked poor in that game, and his awful half-hearted attempt at tackling Chandler Jones on his way to scoring the vital TD will only bolster the friction between Jones and the rest of the locker room.
The Cincinnati Bengals are on a roll, having won their last six games, and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and quarterback Joe Burrow continue to light up opponents each week.
The Patriots’ defence is one of the best units in the league but it’s still hard to see them neutralising the Bengals enough for New England’s own offence to keep them in the game.
All things considered, the Bengals should be able to do just enough to pick up the victory and win this one by more than a field goal.
