National League South outright verdict

Dorking and Dartford had established themselves as serious title contenders by the time the National League South was brought to an early end in 2020-21.

And of the two, Dorking seem the likeliest to challenge again this season.

Jason Prior was unstoppable in front of goal last season, notching 15 goals in as many games, and he could terrorise defences alongside Alfie Rutherford and new recruit Callum Kealy.

Barry Fuller joined Dorking prior to last season Gillingham and the 36-year-old defender, who was a regular at the League One Gills, brings invaluable experience to Wanderers’ backline.

Expect Dorking to pick up from where they left off and be firmly in the hunt for the title come the end of the season.

At a much bigger price, Maidstone could represent each-way value.

The Stones finished in mid-table in 2019-20 and were 11th when last season was curtailed, but they have made a number of eye-catching signings that could propel them back into the National League.

Among their new recruits are attackers Alfie Pavey and Jack Barham.
Stones manager Hakan Hayrettin has close ties with Barham so will hope to get the best out of the former Dartford ace, while Pavey scored 22 goals at this level in 2017-18.

Given their sound recruitment, the Stones may get some end-of-season satisfaction.
