Qatar Grand Prix predictions
Lando Norris's world championship dream ended in Las Vegas last week, but his McLaren team have the opportunity to seal the constructors' title in this weekend's Qatar Grand Prix.
A sixth-place finish in Vegas was not enough for Norris to stop Max Verstappen getting his hands on a fourth consecutive world drivers' crown, while third and fourth-place finishes for Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc saw the Scuderia reduce McLaren's advantage in the constructors' standings to 24 points.
However, the warmer weather and twistier circuit in Lusail should be much more to McLaren's liking and they will take the constructors' title for the first time since 1998 if they can stretch their lead to at least 44 points.
This is a sprint weekend, with 15 extra team points on offer for the shorter Saturday race, so McLaren could well wrap it up before next week's finale in Abu Dhabi if they put their best foot forward.
Mercedes dominated in Vegas but were more surprised than anyone by their performance, so it is far from guaranteed they will be as strong at the very different Lusail circuit.
Ferrari are also expecting a less competitive outing at a track which doesn't play to their strengths.
Norris, and his team, have let slip many winning opportunities this year, but when things go his way there is no catching the Bristolian. He won by upwards of 20 seconds in the Netherlands and in Singapore on tracks that are not dissimilar in layout to Qatar.
At the odds, it is worth backing Norris to put it all together and claim his fourth win of the season.
Pierre Gasly was dealt a miserable hand in Las Vegas, where the Alpine driver suffered a rare engine blow-up.
The Frenchman, fresh from a surprise podium finish in Brazil, qualified a superb third in Vegas and was running in the top six until his first pitstop, shortly after which his mechanical gremlins struck.
Gasly has reached the top ten in qualifying at three of the last four races and scored a point in Mexico three races ago so looks a decent punt for another top-ten finish.
