Preview

UFC returns to Fight Island in Abu Dhabi with Liverpool fighter Darren Till taking on former champion Robert Whittaker.

There is hardly anything between these middleweight title contenders in the betting but the Gorilla from Liverpool may never get a better chance to land another UFC title shot and he should be backed to get the job done.

Till was undefeated in the UFC until he fought Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title in 2018, but he suffered a bad loss in the second round. He then suffered a heavy KO defeat against Jorge Masvidal in his next fight in London, which prompted some soul-searching and a move up to middleweight, but he looked good beating Kelvin Gastelum last time out.

Whittaker is a former middleweight champion and a big step up from Gastelum, but he's had plenty of problems of his own over the last few years. Illness and injuries have seen him forced to pull out of fights, and his title was brutally ripped from him by Israel Adesanya on his own Australian homeland.

Whittaker took time away from the sport to mentally recover, and if Till has what it takes to become a UFC champion this is a golden chance for him to get another shot.

With both men suffering heavy defeats recently there is a high chance of another KO from these strikers. Till is younger and he may have heavier hands as a middleweight, so back him to get the finish in the later rounds.

Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua and Antonio Rogerio 'Lil Nog' Nogueira are Brazilian UFC veterans fighting for the third time on the undercard at light-heavyweight.

Shogun has won both their fights and he could make it a hat-trick with a KO of his old rival, who lost in the first round on his last trip to the Octagon.

Heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Alexander Gustafsson are both badly in need of a victory to reignite their UFC careers, but the Mauler from Sweden looks the better bet for the win. Werdum often leaves his chin exposed and Gustafsson has the power to turn out his lights if he makes a mistake.
