Betting preview

Switzerland caused something of a shock by beating Russia 4-2 in the quarter-finals having lost the group fixture 5-2, but the chance of a second upset in the semis is more remote.

The Swiss next face Canada, who have dominated the tournament, scoring 33 times in four group games, conceding just five.

The Canadians powered through to the semis with an 11-0 thrashing of Sweden having opened the campaign with a 12-1 destruction of the Swiss, and nothing that has happened inbetween suggests the underdogs can get anywhere close at the second time of asking. Troy Ryan's side still look a good value bet to win gold at 4-6.

USA take on Finland in what looks a tighter affair, although it would surprise no-one should the former set up a final with the Canadians, as has been the case in five of the six previous Olympic gold medal matches and 19 of 20 in the World Championships.

Team USA beat Finland 5-2 in their group opener but were given a scare by Czech Republic in the last eight, conceding the first goal before edging through 4-1.

Finland have been growing into the tournament, beating Russia 5-0 in their last group game, their only group win, before they saw off Japan 7-1 in the quarters, with Petra Nieminen, Michelle Karvinen and Susanna Tapani combining for 11 points in a top line that could threaten the USA.

However, the depth, form and history are on Team USA's side and they should have enough to give themselves the chance of defending their title.
