Cameron Smith has twice been in the winners' circle in 2022 and made a bold bid for Masters glory before a disastrous 12th hole in the final round at Augusta, but Muirfield Village has not been a happy hunting ground for the Australian.

A strong showing at the Memorial this week would go against the grain as his course form figures are an unappetising MC-68-MC-MC-65-MC, but rather than swerve him altogether, it is worth opposing him in a match bet with reliable Irishman Shane Lowry.

While Smith's rise to third in the world rankings has been the second most notable golf progress this year behind Scottie Scheffler's, it is noticeable that his worst performances have come when he has had a break of less than three weeks between tournaments.

He missed the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii the week after winning the Tournament of Champions, was 33rd at the Genesis Invitational and failed to make the weekend at the RBC Heritage the week after Augusta.

Lowry, meanwhile, has been excellent all year, finishing in the top 25 in each of his last ten strokeplay tournaments and he could go even closer than the sixth spot he managed in Ohio 12 months ago.

It is nine years since Matt Kuchar tasted victory at the Memorial but he has come into some decent form and has seven top-tens in 16 goes at Muirfield Village.

He has claimed a top-20 berth in four of his last six tournaments and looks a decent price at 5-2 to match that achievement this week.
