Nobody has ever won back-to-back Players Championships since the tournament moved to the Stadium Course at Sawgrass in 1982 but defending champion Rory McIlroy is favourite to follow up his 2019 success.

McIlroy missed the cut on his first three visits, recalling that "it made me play the way I didn't want to play. You have to play by the course's rules."

He also missed the cut the year before his triumph and has recorded three top-ten finishes. Here are the six-year records of the market-leaders:
