Saturday's Women's Super League football predictions

Goal difference was required to separate Chelsea and Manchester City at the top of the Women's Super League standings last season and with the pair set for another titanic title tussle this term, their first meeting of the campaign at Stamford Bridge looks set to be tight.

Chelsea have won the WSL five times and have made a smooth transition following Emma Hayes's departure with six opening WSL wins under new boss Sonia Bompastor.

But City look even stronger than they did last term. Gareth Taylor's side have won 11 straight games after an opening 2-2 draw at Arsenal and have also posted a 2-0 Champions League victory over holders Barcelona.

The visitors possess the league's best striker in Khadija Shaw, who has scored seven goals in as many games, including a hat-trick against Tottenham last week, but this could be a game where defences hold firm.

The last five meetings have featured fewer than three goals and with Chelsea conceding three goals and City just two following their trip to the Emirates, under 2.5 goals looks the way to go.

It's derby day in north London before that and Arsenal should be confident of avenging last season's defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Gunners have started to settle following Jonas Eidevall's departure as manager and make the short trip to N17 having beaten Brighton 5-0 in the league last Friday and Serie A leaders Juventus 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Spurs possess the leakiest defence in the WSL – they have conceded 18 goals in their seven matches – and may be unable to keep their neighbours in check.
