Wednesday Women's Champions League football predictions

As preparations go, your head coach resigning on the eve of a key Champions League game is hardly ideal, but Arsenal Women have to brush themselves down for a key Champions League clash against Norwegian side Valerenga after Jonas Eidevall left the club on Tuesday.

It has been a poor start for the Gunners, who have won just one of their four Women's Super League matches this season and were also beaten 5-2 by Frauen Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in their opening Champions League group match last week.

First-team coach Renee Stegers takes temporary charge and she should still be able to send out a team who can beat Valerenga, but it would be understandable if the mood at the Emirates is muted, so don't expect the Gunners to run riot.

The visitors, who have won their last 12 games in the Toppserien, put up a strong battle in a 1-0 defeat to Juventus in their opener, so they look unlikely to roll over on what could be quite a nervy night.

Arsenal have scored just four goals in the league this season and had to be satisfied with a 1-0 win over another Norwegian outfit, Rosenborg, in the qualifying rounds, so a home win with under 3.5 goals could be the way to go.

Manchester City's start to the campaign has been a lot more satisfying even if they were severely tested by Liverpool on Sunday when two Khadija Shaw goals saw them rally to win 2-1 at Anfield.

That could have provided a reality check following the joy of their 2-0 win over Champions League holders Barcelona last week, and they should have few problems against Austrian league leaders St Polten, who claimed just one group point in last season's competition.

Their hosts may fear the worst after a 7-0 home defeat to Lyon last season, and England midfielder Jess Park is a player to look out for in the goalscorer markets.

She scored twice in City's 5-0 qualifying win over Paris and was also on target in their opening 2-2 draw at Arsenal.

The Lioness has had at least two efforts at goal in each of her last 11 club appearances and could reward her anytime-goalscorer backers.
