Wednesday's Women's Champions League predictions

Manchester City Women claimed a shock 2-0 win over Barcelona Women on matchday one of the Champions League group stage but Barca are hot favourites to avenge that defeat on home turf.

Since their opening loss, the European champions have beaten Hammarby 9-0 and 3-0 and St Polten 7-0 and 4-1 and they face an injury-hit City side.

Manager Gareth Taylor is missing England internationals Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp as well as star forwards Khadija Shaw and Vivianne Miedema.

City have lost 2-0 at Chelsea and 2-1 at struggling Everton in their last two WSL away fixtures and another low-scoring defeat looks likely against Barcelona.

Arsenal's interim manager Renee Slegers enhanced her chances of getting the job permanently as the Gunners won 1-0 at Liverpool in the WSL on Sunday.

Arsenal go into their clash with Group C leaders Bayern Munich on a run of nine wins in ten games and they have kept clean sheets in seven of those victories.

Striker Alessia Russo has been rejuvenated by the arrival of Slegers in October and she is worth backing to open the scoring against Bayern, who lost 2-0 on their last visit to Arsenal in March 2023.

Russo scored the only goal of the game against Liverpool, following a brace in last week's 3-1 Champions League win at Valerenga, and she has notched first in five of Arsenal's last eight matches.
