Women's Champions League football predictions

There are a couple of cracking Women's Champions League matches on Tuesday that should kick the group stage into life and it is difficult to gauge who out of WSL pair Arsenal and Manchester City have been handed the tougher tie.

It looks as if the Gunners could have the most to do after an underwhelming start to the Women's Super League season for the team who finished third last season.

Jonas Eidevall's side have had to get past Rangers, Rosenborg and Hacken to get this far and they face a daunting trip to Frauen Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, who won 19 and drew three of their league games last season and have started this term with seven straight successes.

The German giants should be determined to produce a strong run in this competition after failing to get out of the group stage last year, and they are worth backing to start with a victory.

Arsenal have drawn two of their three league games and beat last season's strugglers Leicester 1-0, and while a 2-2 at home to Manchester City is a cause for some optimism, a run of one win from their last five European away games is not.

City, meanwhile, face a home tie against defending champions Barcelona, but Gareth Taylor's side should be spurred on after following their draw at the Emirates with wins over Brighton and West Ham.

Barca have been typically rampant in their opening five La Liga Femenina matches this term - they beat Madrid CFF 8-1 on Sunday - but City possess a strong goal threat since former Arsenal star Vivianne Miedema was brought in to play alongside Jamaican international Khadija Shaw.

Neither started the game against the Hammers on Sunday, so they should be rested and they have the ability to trouble the Barcelona defence.

City may not have quite enough to see off the holders, but they could at least find the net.
