Best Premier League bet

Brentford vs Ipswich
3pm Saturday

Fast starters Brentford can put Ipswich to bed early at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Thomas Frank's men are masters of the fast start this season and have established leads inside the first two minutes in four of their last five Premier League fixtures.

Even last week, in a 2-1 loss at Manchester United where they missed out on their customary lightning start, they were still ahead at the interval.

They have played five home fixtures this season in league and cup and the Brentford-Brentford double-result bet has landed in four of those. They have led at half-time in all five.

It's all been a bit of a struggle for Ipswich since promotion. Four gutsy draws in a row showed they could battle away with the elite, but their last two efforts – a meek 4-1 loss at West Ham and 2-0 home defeat to a bang-average Everton – will have dampened any lingering enthusiasm at Portman Road.

They are firing off fewer shots than any other side and while Kieran McKenna is seemingly spoiled for choice in attack with forwards such as Jack Clarke, Liam Delap, Wes Burns, Sammie Szmodics and more, none are proven at this level.

That's in contrast to Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa and Frank's now battle-hardened top-flight outfit whose home record suggests they can win this one well.

Best EFL bet

Crewe vs Tranmere
3pm Saturday

Crewe took a few weeks to get over their League Two playoff disappointment but are now playing the type of football which suggests their plan is to go up by bypassing Wembley altogether this term.

After failing to find the net in their first three games, the Alex have won six of their last nine in the league, losing just once and are up to sixth.

And Tuesday's statement 1-0 win at a tasty Fleetwood will have instilled even more self-belief ahead of the visit of Tranmere to Gresty Road.

Rovers have won only two of their last nine in all competitions and those wins were against strugglers Accrington and Bromley, neither of whom have the swagger of Crewe.

They lost 1-0 at home to Grimsby on Tuesday, when the Mariners also missed a penalty, and as the division's lowest scorers with seven goals  in 12 matches, if Tranmere do fall behind it looks unlikely they can hit back.

Best European bet

Montpellier vs Toulouse
4pm Sunday

Crisis club Montpellier sacked Michel Der Zakarian after last week's 5-0 home mauling by Marseille, which means 70-year-old Jean Gasset has been summoned to right a sinking ship.

Gasset comes in at the worst possible time with the club bottom of the league, leaking goals at a terrible rate and unable to call upon three defenders – Stefan Dzodic, Mali international Boubacar Kouyate and Christopher Jullien – as well as a stack of other players.

They look absolutely doomed and certainly worth taking on against Toulouse at the Mosson.

Toulouse aren't exactly pulling up trees but Les Violets can bring back Cristian Casseres and Aron Donnum from bans to bolster their midfield.

And their 2-1 losses to Lyon and Lille over the last month, games in which they took the lead, hint at far more promise than anything being shown by Montpellier.

Weekend accumulators

Banker
Wycombe
The Chairboys are League One's second-highest scorers – impressive given the other big-hitters in tier three – which should give them the edge over shot-shy Leyton Orient.

Blowout
Carlisle
Mike Williamson hasn't overseen a win in his last seven so there is no reason to back Carlisle at a short price at home to Cheltenham, who have just had two decent results.

Accumulator

Brentford 7-10, Burnley 7-10, Reading 4-5, Chesterfield 5-6. £1 accumulator returns £9.54 with Hills.

Both teams to score
Games at Plymouth 8-11, Cambridge 3-4, Hartlepool 4-6, Stenhousemuir 4-6. £1 accumulator returns £8.40 with bet365.
