Sheffield United vs Watford predictions

There would not have been many people pushing Watford forward as potential Championship promotion candidates before the season kicked off, but optimism abounds at Vicarage Road after Tom Cleverley's side opened the campaign with three victories.

Millwall, Derby and Stoke have all been put in their place by the Hornets, but they face a tougher test at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United, who have avoided cascading into freefall after their dismal one-season stop in the Premier League.

The Blades are unbeaten themselves and would probably think they should have more to show for their efforts as, following a 2-0 victory over Preston for starters, they were pegged back from two-goals up to draw with QPR on their own patch and then gained a 1-1 draw at Norwich, who have yet to go through the gears this term.

Chris Wilder's team suffered their first loss when a second string were beaten in the EFL Cup at nearby Barnsley, but there must be an air of contentment as they look to steady the ship after relegation.

Kieffer Moore looks a strong addition up front at second-tier level and his capture allows United to play to their strengths with Gustavo Hamer providing plenty of creativity.

Even though Watford's excellent start has been a surprise - they have also dispatched MK Dons and Plymouth without conceding in the EFL Cup - their Championship away form has been strong as they have suffered just two defeats in their last 12 on the road.

They scrapped to a win at The Den after Millwall scored a late equaliser, so their character should not be questioned, but this clash remains a tough examination of whether the Hertfordshire outfit can indeed be the real deal this term.

A draw would be a good result and as this fixture tends to feature tight matches, it would not be a shock if honours ended even.
