Scottish football predictions

Aberdeen couldn’t have hoped for a better beginning to the season and their record stands at 13 victories from 14 matches.

The Dons battled back from 2-0 down to pick up a 2-2 draw against Celtic at Parkhead last time out, which is the only contest Jimmy Thelin’s men have failed to win this term. However, all good things come to an end and Dundee United look overpriced to collect points at Pittodrie.

Yes, the Reds have lost just one match, but five of Aberdeen’s seven William Hill Premiership matches have come by a single-goal margin and Thelin’s men have certainly enjoyed the rub of the green.

The Dons lost the shot count 32-8 against Celtic last time out, they hit only three shots on target in a 3-2 success against a ten-man Hearts side prior to the Glasgow draw, and Aberdeen were clearly second-best when fortunate 2-1 winners at Dundee.

Dundee United have been in flying form, losing only two of their last 13 contests and Jim Goodwin’s men look a good double-chance play.

The Edinburgh derby takes centre stage on Sunday and Hearts look a nice price to leave Easter Road with three points.

The Jambos have a tight turnaround from Thursday night’s Conference League cruise against Omonia Nicosia, but that was a comfortable  contest and Neil Critchley’s men don’t have far to travel on Sunday.

Hearts picked up their first William Hill Premiership victory of the season when hammering St Mirren 4-0 last weekend, and while it has taken far too long for the Jam Tarts to strike, that success is a more accurate reflection of what the capital side can do.

Hibs are lacking structure and the suspension of key midfielder Joe Newell will not help matters against Hearts.
