Scottish football predictions

A first European campaign in 37 years hampered St Mirren at the start of this season but manager Stephen Robinson has gone back to basics and returned to the 3-4-3 formation that has brought his side so much success in recent years.

Since then they have lost narrowly to Rangers, beaten St Johnstone and drawn with Ross County.

They visit bottom-of-the-table Hibs, who have won just one league game all season, and pressure is mounting on manager David Gray.

They are odds-on to pick up a second victory and that looks too short enough given their struggles in front of goal - they are the lowest scorers in the top flight with ten goals in 11 games.

Expect the Hibees to have more of the ball but that may play into St Mirren’s hands as they can be deadly on the break and ten of their 12 points this term have come in games where they have had less than 50 per cent possession.

The Saints have won three of the last four league meetings between these teams and look worth backing in the draw-no-bet market.

Title favourites Celtic will be looking to build on their impressive 3-1 win over RB Leipzig in midweek when they visit Kilmarnock on Sunday and it could be a straightforward assignment for the Hoops.

Killie’s defensive solidity from last term has been nowhere to be seen this season. Their total of 23 goals conceded is the second-worst in the top flight and they have leaked nine goals in the last two head-to-heads.

Key defender Stuart Findlay is out for the home side and Celtic have scored 14 goals in their last four games in all competitions. They can win by two or more.

Rangers could be as many as 12 points adrift of Celtic by the time they face Hearts on Sunday night and anything but a win could be disastrous for Philippe Clement.
