Scottish football predictions

Aberdeen insist they won't be taking League Cup quarter-final opponents Spartans lightly as the 1-8 Dons go in search of an 11th straight win.

The League Two part-timers earned their place in the last eight courtesy of a shock 1-0 win over William Hill Premiership outfit Ross County in the previous round.

But the Dons are a cut above their Highland rivals and have won every game they have played under Jimmy Thelin. They haven't lost a game since March.

Aberdeen can brush aside Spartans and Rangers can do the same to Dundee in the two televised cup matches on Saturday.

Down in William Hill League One, take a chance on Arbroath beating Annan in the first home game since Colin Hamilton and David Gold were permanently appointed player-managers.

The duo had been unbeaten in their three matches as co-caretakers before the Red Lichties went down 2-1 at Queen of the South last weekend.

But they will get a good reception back at Gayfield, where they masterminded a 3-0 dismantling of Montrose in the Challenge Cup two weeks back.

Arbroath are bottom and yet to win but this looks an obvious opportunity against a fairly ordinary Annan.

League One has an odd look about it with Dumbarton sitting second from bottom yet unbeaten.

The Sons have managed to draw all six of their games and there must be a temptation to bet on a seventh at home to Montrose, who have drawn two of their three away games. The last time they met it finished 0-0, in March 2022.

However, Montrose were excellent in crushing Stenhousemuir 3-0 last weekend, are getting players back from injury and look worth chancing at a decent price.
