Scottish football preview

Kilmarnock can bring Hamilton back down to earth with a win at New Douglas Park.

Accies stunned Rangers on Wednesday with a smash-and-grab 1-0 win at Ibrox that saw them move off the bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership.

But the defensive effort it took to achieve that result must have sapped Brian Rice’s side significantly.

Scottish football is littered with tales of teams claiming glorious wins over the Old Firm only to fade badly in their next game and that fate could befall Hamilton.

Killie have their mojo back under Alex Dyer and, although they blew a two-goal lead against bogey team Aberdeen in midweek, they have been improving.

In-form striker Eamonn Brophy has scored seven goals in his last eight games and could trouble Hamilton.

Accies’ artificial pitch won’t worry the Ayrshire side. Killie play on a similar surface and could boost their top-six hopes.

Morton are on an upward curve and can beat Ladbrokes Championship surprise package Arbroath in Greenock.

The part-time Red Lichties are chasing an unlikely play-off spot after an outstanding season under Dick Campbell.

But triumphing at Cappielow may be tough for them against improving Ton, who won 4-0 at Queen of the South last week before being edged out at Inverness on Tuesday.

Morton have already beaten Arbroath at home and away this season and have Aidan Nesbitt in fine form.

Both sides are level on points and a win could push Morton into the play-off spots.

East Fife can edge a crucial Ladbrokes League One game at Airdrie. It’s third against fourth in the section as both teams try to hang on to the coat-tails of Raith and Falkirk at the top.

And the Methil men may just have more on the day.

Darren Young’s men have won four of their last five – the only loss on that run coming at Falkirk – and midfielder Scott Agnew has been ably pulling the strings for Fife.

Airdrie have failed to score in five of their last seven and the New Bayview side look value.
