Match preview

Improving Barcelona face their sternest test for some time as they travel to the Bernabeu to take on rivals Real Madrid.

Real have won the last five El Clasico clashes and have a ten-point gap over Sevilla at the top of La Liga.

There may be an expectation that the home side should be shorter in the betting as a result of their recent dominance but Karim Benzema’s calf injury means they will be without their star striker.

An improved showing for Barca here would be a statement in Xavi’s burgeoning managerial career and his first trip to his rivals' stadium as a coach.

The former midfielder’s team seem to see attack as the best form of defence and five of their last six league games have produced four or more goals.

The Catalan club have netted 20 times in that six-match run and conceded six in the process.

With their new-look forward line, headed by the in-form Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and with Benzema missing, Barca will look to take the game to their hosts and a high-scoring affair may follow.

Key stat

Five of Barcelona's last six league games have produced four or more goals
