Wolves vs Nottingham Forest predictions

Nottingham Forest won their last five Premier League fixtures of a dramatic 2024 and the resurgent Tricky Trees can kick off the new year by beating Wolves at Molineux.

Forest avoided relegation last season despite finishing the campaign with 32 points, the lowest tally of any team who stayed up in Premier League history.

They were hindered by a four-point deduction but even the most optimistic Forest fans would not have dreamed of a bumper crop of 37 points by the midway point of the 2024-25 season.

Nuno Espirito Santo's stock is soaring again after his brief, unhappy spell at Tottenham and Forest look capable of grinding out a win at his former club Wolves.

After 16 months under the exotic south-east Londoner Gary O'Neil, Wolves reverted to the tried-and-tested formula of appointing an Iberian coach to drag them out of trouble.

Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira follows in the footsteps of compatriots Nuno and Bruno Lage, as well as Spanish boss Julien Lopetegui, and his arrival has yielded immediate dividends.

Wolves won 3-0 at survival rivals Leicester in Pereira's first game in charge before a 2-0 home victory over Manchester United and a 2-2 draw at Tottenham, where substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen scored an 87th-minute equaliser.

The Norwegian, on loan from Celta Vigo, should start against Forest as Wolves are missing inspirational forward Matheus Cunha, who begins a two-match suspension.

Cunha was involved in a post-match disagreement with a member of Ipswich's coaching staff after last month's 2-1 home defeat to the Tractor Boys, which ended O'Neil's spell at Molineux.

The Brazilian attacker has scored ten times in 18 league starts this season, including goals in the wins over Leicester and Manchester United, and his absence makes Forest an appealing bet to win a contest featuring under 3.5 goals.

Pereira should be delighted with a haul of seven points from his first three games but he started his Wolves career against three out-of-form opponents.

Forest, in contrast, are purring after winning nine of their 12 league matches since October's international break.

Their only defeats during that run came at home to Newcastle and away to Manchester City and Arsenal, last season's top two, and the return of first-team regulars Murillo and Callum Hudson-Odoi should strengthen the visitors.

Forest have won their last three games to nil, winning 2-0 at Brentford and Everton either side of a 1-0 home victory over Tottenham, while Wolves have had fewer shots than their opponents in all three of their matches under Pereira.
