Match preview

Manchester United vetoed their proposed membership to the short-lived European Super League project but they have a chance to join an even more exclusive club if they avoid defeat at Molineux on Sunday.

Only two teams have previously gone an entire top-flight season undefeated away from home - Preston 1888-89 and Arsenal in both 2001-02 and 2003-04 - and the Red Devils are poised to match that achievement having put together a 25-game unbeaten run on the road stretching back to last season.

Their task may have been made harder by the shock news that this will be Nuno Espirito Santo’s final game in charge of Wolves with the highly-rated coach deciding he’s taken Wanderers as far as he can after four memorable years at the helm.

After back-to-back defeats and a disappointing season on the whole, Nuno will want to finish the season on a high note by frustrating a United side who haven’t won at Molineux in four attempts.

United need to find some impetus ahead of next week’s Europa League final after taking just one point from their last three outings, and that might persuade Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not to rest all of his star men ahead of their date with Villarreal in Gdansk.

Whoever the Norwegian sends out, United are liable to start slowly with no side having been level at the break more often this season.

Wolves have been just as slow-starters, failing to score in the first half in a league-high 28 games - only rock-bottom Sheffield United have managed fewer goals in the opening 45 minutes of matches.

Key stat

United have been level at half-time in 20 of their 37 league matches this season.
