West Ham vs Man City predictions

Manchester City flew out of the blocks in last Saturday's 4-1 triumph at home to Ipswich, scoring three times in the first 16 minutes after Sammie Szmodics had given Town a shock third-minute lead.

Pep Guardiola's side have led at the break in eight of their last nine Premier League victories and another fast start from the champions can lay the groundwork for a win over West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.

There were one or two concerns over how City might perform in the early weeks of the season due to a lack of fitness of some of their key personnel. Four City players – John Stones, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and Rodri – were involved in the Euro 2024 final and all are yet to start a Premier League match this term.

However, the champions have continued to perform at a high level and competition for places is increasing with every passing week.

The returning Ilkay Gundogan stepped off the bench last Saturday for the first appearance of his second spell with the club, and City's Euro 2024 finalists are closing in on a return, too.

City might not be quite at full strength but they should be more than a match for West Ham, who are encountering some understandable teething problems after changing manager and making several additions to their squad this summer.

Hammers fans were understandably excited following the captures of Max Kilman, Guido Rodriguez, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and highly rated defender Jean-Clair Todibo. But only Kilman and Rodriguez have started West Ham's opening two matches – a 2-1 loss at home to Aston Villa and 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace.

The new faces were handed greater exposure by Julen Lopetegui in Wednesday's EFL Cup second-round tie against Bournemouth but none were especially impressive and a gritty 1-0 win was only achieved after regulars Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen combined for an 89th-minute winner.

West Ham's goal was hotly contested by the Cherries, who had cause to be aggrieved as the ball appeared to go in off Bowen's arm.

Bournemouth also wasted a series of clear-cut chances as they sliced through the Hammers' defence with apparent ease only to let themselves down with a lack of composure in front of goal.

West Ham will probably defend in a deeper and more compact fashion this weekend, but City should still carve out plenty of opportunities and, unlike Bournemouth, the champions rarely need a second invitation to punish sides.

West Ham vs Man City bet builder predictions

Over 2.5 goals
Manchester City are looking more fluent with each week that passes and they can be the main contributors to a high-scoring outcome.

Erling Haaland to score the first goal
The Norwegian will be full of confidence after his hat-trick against Ipswich and he seems a solid pick to land the first blow at the London Stadium.

Lucas Paqueta to be carded
Paqueta picked up his first booking of the season during West Ham's 2-1 loss at home to Aston Villa and he looks a likely card recipient this weekend.
