Tottenham vs West Ham predictions

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has had plenty of time to reflect on his side's second-half capitulation in the 3-2 defeat at Brighton before the international break.

Spurs were on course for a sixth successive victory in all competitions as they led 2-0 at the Amex Stadium following a scintillating first-half performance.

They fell apart after the break, conceding in the 48th, 58th and 66th minutes, but a home fixture against West Ham offers a decent opportunity to get back on track.

Postecoglou remains committed to his gung-ho style of play and Tottenham's previous Premier League outing was an impressive 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Their defensive frailties may be exposed by stronger opponents but Spurs should be confident of winning an entertaining London derby against the Hammers.

New West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui claimed a much-needed victory against Ipswich last time out at the London Stadium, where goals from Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta fired the hosts to a 4-1 win.

Their stats from that game were eye-catching as the Hammers racked up 13 shots on target, also hitting the woodwork twice, although they were helped by some generous defending from the top-flight newcomers.

West Ham have looked far less convincing against better teams recently, losing 5-1 at Liverpool in the EFL Cup and conceding twice in the first 18 minutes of last month's 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea.

That was the only one of Lopetegui's first nine matches in which the Hammers failed to find the net so backing Tottenham to win and both teams to score looks the most solid bet in a fixture between two mercurial sides.

It was a winner in West Ham's home defeats to Aston Villa and Manchester City and clean sheets have hardly been a regular feature of Postecoglou's time at Tottenham.

Their only league shutouts this season came at home to Everton, who had less than 30 per cent of possession in August's 4-0 defeat but still mustered ten shots at goal, and away at United, whose captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off before half-time.

Spurs beat Qarabag 3-0 in the Europa League despite an early red card for Radu Dragusin but the visitors missed a host of chances including a penalty.

West Ham, with key forward Bowen fresh after being overlooked for England's October internationals, have the quality to land a blow on the home defence but the visitors are far from reliable at the back themselves.
