Tottenham vs Aston Villa predictions

Progressing to the quarter-finals of the League Cup on Wednesday will have boosted the mood in the Tottenham camp after last Sunday's frustrating 1-0 Premier League defeat at Crystal Palace, but the Lilywhites are not guaranteed to build on that 2-1 victory over Manchester City when they host Aston Villa.

While nothing should take away from the result,  the Citizens heavily rotated their squad for Wednesday's game while Spurs fielded many of their first-team players and their league form still leaves a lot to be desired.

The defeat at Palace was Tottenham's ninth in their last 16 Premier League matches and they may struggle to improve that record against in-form Aston Villa.

The Villans have been exceptional this term, taking 18 points from a possible 27 in the Premier League and excelling in the Champions League, beating Young Boys, Bayern Munich and Bologna without conceding a goal to go a perfect three from three in Europe.

Unai Emery knows how to get the best out of his players and there is every chance he can make it three wins in a row for Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While their record at Villa Park was a huge reason for last term's success, the Villans' away form has caught the eye this time.

Emery's men are unbeaten on the road this season, winning five of their six matches. Both of their trips to the capital this season have resulted in three points with wins over West Ham and Fulham and they will be looking for another successful raid at Spurs.

They may have to work hard for three points given Tottenham have won their last five home matches in all competitions, but Villa are a much stronger side than anybody the Lilywhites have beaten in that run.

The league wins in that sequence came against Brentford and West Ham but Spurs were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at home prior to that and the Villans are closer in quality to the title-chasing Gunners than they are to the mid-table Bees and Hammers.

Emery is also boosted by having almost a full squad to choose from – Ross Barkley is the visitors' only absentee – which is a privilege Ange Postecoglou has not been granted.

Tottenham's best defender, Micky van de Ven, limped off in the week and will miss this clash, meaning five-goal Ollie Watkins and, when he inevitably comes off the bench, four-goal Jhon Duran could cause plenty of issues for the hosts and give the Villans every chance of landing three points.

Tottenham vs Aston Villa bet builder predictions

Both teams to score
Tottenham have managed just one clean sheet in their last six games and both teams to score has been a winning bet in all but one of Aston Villa's away matches this season.

Pedro Porro over 0.5 shots
Spurs' right-back has taken 17 shots in his nine Premier League appearances this term and will look to get forward at every opportunity.

Youri Tielemans over 0.5 assists
Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario struggles from corners and Aston Villa's set-piece specialist, Youri Tielemans, could notch his fourth Premier League assist of the season by exploiting that weakness.
