Match preview
Tottenham's 1-0 loss to Manchester City in the EFL Cup final was the latest setback in a campaign which has fallen below expectations but the Londoners are not completely out of the running for a top-four finish and can keep their slim hopes alive by defeating Sheffield United in London.
Ryan Mason became the Premier League's youngest manager when overseeing Tottenham's 2-1 success at home to Southampton but the 29-year-old's honeymoon period was brought to a swift conclusion by City, who were in a class of their own at Wembley last Sunday.
Spurs should play more positively against the league's basement boys but their confidence has taken a knock and it may take a while for them to assert themselves against a Blades side who have retained the appetite to compete for every ball.
Sheffield United suffered narrow defeats on their last two road trips – going down 2-1 at Leeds and 1-0 at Wolves and they picked up a confidence-boosting 1-0 success at home to Brighton last Saturday.
Interim manager Paul Heckingbottom was heartened by the performance against Brighton and will be looking for more of the same to give supporters hope of a much better season in the Championship next term.
However, it has always been a lack of quality rather than desire which has made it so tough for the Yorkshire club to compete.
They often lose by a narrow margin and have conceded fewer than three goals in 26 of their 33 league fixtures.
However, the Blades have failed to score in six of their last seven away games and another blank could condemn them to a low-scoring defeat against Spurs.
Key stat
Sixteen of Sheffield United's last 17 games have featured fewer than four goals.
