Arsenal missed the chance to put themselves firmly back in the Premier League title race on Sunday as a 2-2 draw with Liverpool could only narrow the gap between them and leaders Manchester City to five points.

The Gunners have been pushed out to 11-4 from 2-1 for the title by bet365 as a key opportunity to make up ground slipped away in north London.

Mikel Arteta’s side, who have posted two successive runner-up finishes to Pep Guardiola’s champions, took the lead twice through Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino but were pegged back by Mohamed Salah’s 81st-minute equaliser at the Emirates.

The result meant City kept top spot following their 1-0 win over bottom side Southampton on Saturday.

They are 5-4 from 11-8 to retain their title, while Liverpool can be backed at 5-2 as they leapfrogged the Londoners in the outright market.

All three teams are in action this Saturday with the Gunners kicking off the weekend with a long-distance lunchtime trip to Newcastle, while City head to Bournemouth and Liverpool host Brighton at 3pm.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag endured another miserable afternoon as his team fell to an injury-time penalty at West Ham.

Jarrod Bowen did the damage from the spot for the Hammers as the Red Devils were left to reflect on a host of missed chances at the London Stadium.

The pressure was eased on Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner as the Eagles posted their first league victory of the campaign by beating Tottenham 1-0 at Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile, Chelsea went fifth after Cole Palmer’s winner in their 2-1 win over Newcastle, who they face in a reverse fixture in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Enzo Maresca’s side are 13-8 to win that St James’ Park showdown and are 8-5 to win at Manchester United in Sunday’s mouthwatering contest.
