Chelsea missed the opportunity to put themselves firmly in the Premier League title race yesterday when they settled for a 1-1 draw at Manchester United.

The Blues are 16-1 to win the league for the first time since 2017 with bet365 after they could not take advantage of defeats for Manchester City and Arsenal over the weekend and they are seven points off Liverpool, who took advantage of their rivals’ slip-ups with a win over Brighton on Saturday.

Champions City remain 6-4 favourites despite their 2-1 loss at Bournemouth, but it is a keen contest with Liverpool 7-4 and Arsenal available at 100-30.

Yesterday’s stalemate at Old Trafford, in which Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot before a Moises Caicedo equaliser, also means an epic battle for a top-four spot is developing with just four points separating Nottingham Forest in third and Newcastle in tenth.

Liverpool, City and Arsenal are all short odds-on prices to be in the Champions League next season, and Chelsea, who moved into fourth courtesy of the point they earned, remain favourites to join them at 8-11.

United are 9-1 to make it as new manager Ruben Amorim prepares to take the reins during this month’s international break.

Tottenham boosted their own chances as they recovered to beat Aston Villa 4-1 in yesterday’s earlier kick-off.

Villa pipped Spurs to a top-four finish last season and took the upper hand in north London when Morgan Rogers took advantage of some dithering among the Tottenham defence from a corner.

However, the Londoners were rejuvenated after the break as Brennan Johnson brought them level before a Dominic Solanke double put Spurs firmly in control and James Maddison capped the win with a smart free-kick in injury-time.

The victory left Spurs two points behind local rivals Arsenal and Ange Postecoglou’s side, who have won four of their last six league matches, are 5-2 to be back at Europe’s top table next season.

Villa meanwhile, who will play their latest Champions League game against Club Brugge in Belgium on Wednesday, are 7-2 to secure a top-four slot themselves.

Newcastle, who beat the Gunners 1-0 in Saturday’s early kick-off are 6-1, while Brighton can be backed at 10-1 and Forest are available at 20-1.
