Erik ten Hag is 6-5 to be sacked as Manchester United boss before Thursday's game against Porto after his side's 3-0 humbling by Tottenham on Sunday.

Spurs stunned Old Trafford by going ahead after just three minutes when an unmarked Brennan Johnson fired in following Micky van de Ven's marauding run.

Tottenham continued to create chances, and things got worse for the hosts just before the break when skipper Bruno Fernandes received a straight red card for a sloppy challenge after slipping when attempting to dispossess James Maddison.

United's nightmare continued early in the second half as Dejan Kulusevski cleverly angled Johnson's cross past Andre Onana in the home goal.

The hosts rallied as the heavens opened but Old Trafford inevitably started to empty after Dominic Solanke poked home from a corner with less than 15 minutes to go.

Tottenham's 3-0 win matched Liverpool's victory by the same scoreline at Old Trafford in August and Spurs are up to eighth in the table, three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, and 11-4 for a top-four finish.

United have drifted to 15-2 for a Champions League return but more pressing is the talk over Ten Hag's future. The Dutchman was best-priced at 9-1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave his role on Sunday morning but Ladbrokes have slashed him to 6-5 to be out of his job by the time United next take to the field on Thursday.

That precedes next week's trip to Aston Villa, who drew 2-2 at Ipswich in the early game on Sunday, with the October international break looming ominously.

By contrast, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou will feel vindicated that his offensive tactics paid off in the victory. Spurs next face Ferencvaros in the Europa League before visiting Brighton on Sunday.
