Nottingham Forest vs Brighton predictions

A glorious couple of months for Nottingham Forest ended with a 5-0 Premier League defeat at Bournemouth last weekend and the Tricky Trees may struggle to bounce back at home to Brighton.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men had won eight of their previous nine league and cup matches before the rout on the south coast and the exception was a 1-1 draw at home to leaders Liverpool.

Despite their defeat at Bournemouth, who mustered ten shots on target against a Forest side who have excelled defensively this season, Nuno's charges kick off this round of fixtures in third place.

Their expected-goals stats suggest they have been flattered by a tally of 33 goals in 23 league games and they showed signs of vulnerability at the back in their most recent home match.

Forest beat bottom club Southampton 3-2 but a more comfortable win appeared to be on the cards when they led the demoralised Saints 3-0 at half-time.

Visitors Brighton are the Premier League's draw specialists and, in a tricky betting heat, the 1-1 correct score is worth chancing.

The Seagulls remain a source of frustration for fans and punters, claiming a stylish 3-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford before stumbling to a 1-0 home defeat against Everton last time out.

Youthful manager Fabian Hurzeler has been hampered by injuries during his first campaign in England and Brighton's lack of cutting edge in front of goal was apparent against the Toffees.

A poor conversion rate has been a theme of the Seagulls' time in the top flight and they mustered only one shot on target against Everton despite having 16 attempts and 69 per cent of possession.

Despite those flaws, Brighton have proved tough to beat this season and they relish taking on the top teams in the division.

They have lost only two of their nine matches against sides above them in the table. Chelsea took advantage of some hopelessly naive Brighton defending to win 4-2 at Stamford Bridge in September and title favourites Liverpool had to work hard for their 2-1 victory at Anfield in November.

Brighton have drawn 1-1 with Arsenal at home and away and their last six road results were score draws at Leicester, West Ham and Aston Villa and wins at Norwich in the FA Cup and Ipswich and Manchester United in the league.

September's reverse fixture in Sussex ended 2-2, with Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White and both managers receiving red cards, and another tight, competitive clash looks likely.

Key stat

Brighton have scored at least once in their last 13 Premier League away fixtures .
