Manchester United vs Southampton predictions

Manchester United have risen to a couple of big challenges over the last couple of weeks and can maintain their revival with a home victory and a clean sheet against Southampton, who seem destined for a swift return to the Championship.

Ruben Amorim's side were given little hope in the run-up to their trip to Liverpool this month but they performed well from the start and emerged with a deserved 2-2 draw.

They were given slightly more respect before their FA Cup third-round visit to Arsenal but still performed above expectations by shrugging off the huge setback of Diogo Dalot's 61st-minute red card and finding a way to get through the tie.

Perhaps the most impressive aspects of United's performances at Anfield and the Emirates was how they responded to adversity.

It took them just ten minutes to level things up against Liverpool after falling behind to Mo Salah's penalty, and they had to play for well over an hour with a man short against the Gunners, who had levelled the scores within two minutes of Dalot's dismissal.

United still have a long road ahead of them and are nowhere near where they wish to be in the Premier League. But they have the look of a hungry, organised group and that will not have gone unnoticed by their fans, who will be eager to witness a first victory since last month's 2-1 triumph at Manchester City.

Southampton, meanwhile, will feel they are heading to Old Trafford at the wrong time.

Ivan Juric's side triumphed 3-0 at home to Swansea in the FA Cup with their outstanding player Tyler Dibling bagging two of the goals.

But they succumbed 5-0 at home to Brentford in their last Premier League encounter and head to the Theatre of Dreams having taken only one point from their last seven league fixtures.

Aside from the debacle against Brentford there have been a few signs that Southampton are becoming harder to play against.

They have kept clean sheets in two of the five games under Juric, including last month's 0-0 draw at Fulham which was only their second away point of the campaign.

However, Saints find themselves in a desperate situation and are at risk of falling below Derby's 11-point tally from the 2007-08 season, the lowest of any Premier League campaign.

Saints will be hoping for one big performance and result to change the course of their season but they seem unlikely to get it against United, who look ready to build on their bright start to 2025.

Manchester United vs Southampton bet builder predictions

Under 3.5 goals
Manchester United have improved defensively but are not scoring bundles of goals and may have to settle for a low-scoring success over the basement boys.

Bruno Fernandes to score any time
Fernandes has upped his level over the last few months and looks as likely as anyone to break Southampton resistance.

Mateus Fernandes to be carded
The Saints midfielder has been cautioned in two of his last four Premier League appearances and may add to his yellow card tally.
