Man City vs Tottenham predictions

Manchester City's four-match losing streak started with a 2-1 EFL Cup defeat to Tottenham and the Premier League champions are aiming to stop the rot by beating Spurs at the Etihad Stadium.

All four of City's losses came away from home as they suffered 2-1 league defeats at Bournemouth and Brighton, either side of a 4-1 Champions League reverse against Sporting.

That run, the worst of Pep Guardiola's career, coincided with an injury crisis for his slimline squad but several first-team regulars should be fit to return after the international break.

Tottenham have a fine record against City, particularly in north London, where they have won six of their last eight league and cup meetings with the champions.

But Spurs have also caused problems for the Citizens in Manchester, winning 3-2 in February 2022 thanks to an injury-time winner from Harry Kane before a 4-2 loss in January 2023 and a 3-3 draw at the Etihad last season.

Goals should continue to flow given the defensive vulnerability shown by both clubs this season and City are an appealing price to win a game in which both teams score.

Losing four in a row is never ideal but the EFL Cup was low down Guardiola's priority list and his side remain on course for a top-eight finish in the new-look Champions League.

The league defeats were damaging, especially considering the impressive pace set by Liverpool in the title race, but City should have the firepower to claim maximum points against Tottenham.

Kevin De Bruyne is expected to play a more significant role for the Citizens after a stop-start season and Spurs are also under pressure following a shock home defeat to 10-1 shots Ipswich.

Ange Postecoglou's men have shown their quality with 4-1 home wins over Aston Villa and West Ham over the last month but they remain frustratingly inconsistent.

Brilliant in the first half of October's trip to Brighton, they meekly surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at the Amex Stadium.

Tottenham's 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace made it seven losses in their last 11 Premier League away fixtures and they have won just three of their last 15 on the road.

One of those victories came against last season's bottom club Sheffield United but Spurs, missing suspended midfield enforcer Rodrigo Bentancur and injured centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, face a far tougher test this weekend.

Off-field uncertainty may have affected City's performances – and the absence of injured Ballon d'Or winner Rodri certainly weakens them.

But Guardiola has agreed a contract extension at the club and City look worth backing to kickstart their league campaign with a high-scoring win over poor travellers Tottenham.

Manchester City have kept only one clean sheet in their last ten Premier League matches
