Man Utd vs Liverpool predictions

Manchester United have won just one of their last 12 Premier League meetings with old rivals Liverpool and even with the Merseysiders under new management, that trend could continue in Sunday's blockbuster battle at Old Trafford.

In the last few seasons this fixture has produced some harrowing results for the Red Devils, most notably a 7-0 mauling by Liverpool in March 2023, and the gulf between the sides was clear to see last season.

Liverpool finished five places and 22 points better off than Manchester United last campaign and they have coped well with the departure of long-serving boss Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp's replacement Arne Slot has been cautious of rocking the boat at Anfield and has kept things much the same in his first two matches in charge.

The Reds began with a resolute 2-0 win away to Premier League new boys Ipswich before repeating that scoreline at home to plucky Brentford last Sunday.

There has been minimal tinkering to the squad with just two signings made and new recruit Giorgi Mamardashvili has returned to Valencia on loan for the season.

But that has all made for a smooth transition from Klopp to Slot and Liverpool look like they should again be in the title mix this campaign.

Manchester United fans could only dream of the kind of stability the Reds have enjoyed and in the build-up to this match, Erik ten Hag praised Liverpool for showing greater maturity and cohesion than his own side.

Manuel Ugarte arrived on deadline day with Scott McTominay departing and Ten Hag still looks unsure of his best combination.

An opening win over Fulham eased some early nerves but they left it late as Joshua Zirkzee grabbed the winner in the 1-0 victory after 87 minutes.

And pressure was immediately applied by last Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Brighton - on that occasion United were the team undone by a late goal.

A Liverpool win looks a solid enough pick, while for punters unwilling to bet on the match result backing the second half to be the higher-scoring half is one to consider.

Three of the four league goals scored by Liverpool this term have come after the break and the Reds topped the Premier League's second-half table in 2023-24.

Of Liverpool's 86 league goals last term, 54 were scored in the second period and they could take their time to pick apart the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

Key stat

Three of the four goals scored in this Premier League fixture last season came in the second half.

Man Utd vs Liverpool bet builder predictions

Liverpool to win
Liverpool have made a fine start to life under Arne Slot with back-to-back wins and they should be too strong for Man United.

Second half to be higher-scoring half
Three of Liverpool's four league goals this term have come in the second half, which could be the highest-scoring half at Old Trafford.

Ryan Gravenberch to commit two or more fouls
Liverpool are masters of the tactical foul and Ryan Gravenberch has already committed seven fouls this term, so back him to record at least two in this clash between rivals.
