Man City vs Everton predictions

Serial Premier League champions Manchester City appear to have lost the art of winning and their dismal spell could be extended when Everton visit the Etihad on Thursday.

Pep Guardiola's side have fallen 12 points adrift of Liverpool and, with their title defence in tatters, they need to redefine their targets for an acceptable season.

Progress to the Champions League knockout rounds hangs in the balance and it will take a major effort to qualify for top-level European competition for the 2025-26 campaign.

For now City dare not look any further than the next game and, given the way they have been playing, it looks far from straightforward.

Sometimes positives can be taken from a defeat but there were no obvious crumbs of comfort for Guardiola to collect from his team's 2-1 loss at Aston Villa.

Phil Foden's injury-time strike halved the deficit but City were not at the races for long periods and were ultimately brushed aside by a Villa side who looked fitter, hungrier and more structured.

Kevin De Bruyne was left on the bench, following his substitution during the 2-1 loss at home to Manchester United, and might be one of the players considered for a recall.

However, the Belgian has been performing way below his former standards and is among a number of City players in danger of losing the faith of their manager.

As well having to manage under-performing players, Guardiola is hampered by injuries in key areas of the team.

The impact of Rodri's absence has been well documented but City's spine has been further weakened by the loss of Ruben Dias and John Stones, who are two of the stronger characters in the group.

A general lack of confidence is also a major issue for a side who have lost nine of their last 12 games and, given all the negative indicators, it seems strange to see City priced up as such firm favourites against well organised opponents.

Everton will have their limitations until the new owners find the a way to boost the quality of their squad but they have kept clean sheets in five of their last six matches, including Sunday's 0-0 draw at home to Chelsea when they ended the Londoners' run of scoring in 15 consecutive Premier League games.

Sean Dyche's side are only four points clear of the relegation zone but they have looked a resilient bunch over several weeks and are worth backing to add to City's misery.

Man City vs Everton bet builder predictions

Everton +2 on handicap
Sean Dyche's side are looking rock solid in defence and can, at the very least, avoid losing by more than one goal.

Under 3.5 goals
Four of Everton's last six games have finished 0-0 and the Toffees can keep things tight at the Etihad where a goal glut looks unlikely.

Idrissa Gueye to be carded
Gueye has committed 26 fouls this season (more than any Everton player) and looks a strong card candidate.
