Manchester United conceded in the fourth and 19th minutes of Monday's 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle and they are unlikely to frustrate Premier League leaders Liverpool for long.

United have scored only eight first-half goals in 19 league games this term and they have conceded the first goal in each of their last eight matches in all competitions.

Liverpool led 2-0 at half-time in September's 3-0 victory over the Red Devils at Old Trafford and, having scored seven first-half goals in their last three games against Tottenham, Leicester and West Ham, they are worth backing to take charge early on at Anfield.

Luis Diaz was Liverpool's hero in their win over United at Old Trafford, where he scored a first-half brace, and he could be too sharp for the Red Devils' defence in the return fixture.

Diaz began the Arne Slot era in fine form on the left wing, notching five times in his first five league appearances, and he has been thriving in a centre-forward role recently.

The Colombia international started up front in Liverpool's drubbings of Tottenham and West Ham either side of Christmas, scoring three goals and racking up 12 shots in those two games.

He has opened the scoring in three of the Reds' last six league meetings with United, including the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford in April 2024, and is worth backing to find the net again.

Matches between Liverpool and Manchester United are always fiercely contested so referee Michael Oliver could be set for a busy afternoon.

Oliver was in charge of Liverpool's only defeat of the season and he booked eight players in the Reds' 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield in September.

His next Premier League game was the showdown between Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, where Gunners forward Leandro Trossard was sent off for two bookable offences and seven other players were cautioned.
