Liverpool vs Leicester predictions

Christmas table-toppers Liverpool got sucked into a high-octane thriller against Tottenham on Sunday, winning 6-3 in north London, but their clash with lowly Leicester City could be a little more reserved.

Tottenham's top-heavy nature coupled with their injuries in defence mean recent fixtures have been full of goals and that was the case when they hosted the Reds on Sunday.

But it is unlikely to be an end-to-end battle when Liverpool host Leicester, who could not even breach the Premier League's worst defence at the weekend, losing 3-0 at home to Wolves.

As a result of that loss, Leicester have shortened to 4-11 in places to be relegated this season and Ruud van Nistelrooy has a big job on his hands in the Midlands.

This would have been earmarked as one of Liverpool's easiest fixtures at this busy stage of the season and Arne Slot could be tempted to rotate.

But even a second-string Liverpool should roll over Leicester and a win to nil stands out at a shade of odds-on.

While they know how to blow teams away going forwards, Liverpool have been a particularly tough nut to crack at Anfield, where they have won four of their last five matches to nil.

They have shut out Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City as part of that run and those sides all have superior attacks to Leicester's.

The Foxes have drawn blanks in their last two Premier League fixtures and have scored just 21 times in 17 top-flight fixtures this term.

Punters could be tempted to back a high-scoring win for the hosts but if they get on top early, Slot will probably look to rest key personnel, making a win to nil the wiser choice.

At 5-2, though, Mo Salah looks a good bet to score at least two goals.

The Egyptian has a sensational return of 15 goals and 11 assists from 16 league fixtures this season and is as short as 1-5 to score or assist in this match.

He thrives in front of the Liverpool fans and has scored or provided an assist in 27 of his last 32 Premier League starts at Anfield.

And while there is the risk he could get hooked if Liverpool get on top early, he could well have done the damage before that stage. He bagged a brace in 61 minutes against Spurs on Sunday.

Key stat

No team have kept more Premier League clean sheets than Liverpool's tally of seven this season.

Liverpool vs Leicester bet builder predictions

Leicester to receive most cards
It could be a frustrating Boxing Day night for Leicester, who have collected 43 yellow cards in the Premier League and are likely to receive more bookings than Liverpool.

Mo Salah to score
Mo Salah is the Premier League's top scorer with 15 strikes and is worth a bet to find the net at Anfield.

Boubakary Soumare to be carded
Boubakary Soumare has been shown six yellow cards in the Premier League this term and could be forced into some cynical fouls against Liverpool's industrious midfield.
