Leicester vs West Ham predictions

Two of Ruud van Nistelrooy's four games as interim boss of Manchester United came against Leicester and he clearly made enough of an impact when winning those games 5-2 and 3-0 to impress the Foxes hierarchy, who named the Dutchman as Steve Cooper's successor on Friday.

Van Nistelrooy will know the magnitude of his task at the King Power, though, after watching on as his new side were thrashed 4-1 by Brentford on Saturday.

He has had very little time to get used to his new surroundings and the first round of midweek fixtures from the Premier League pits the Foxes up against West Ham.

The Hammers were also thrashed on Saturday, going 4-0 down at home to Arsenal before eventually losing 5-2, suggesting Van Nistelrooy certainly could have had harder first tasks. But his limited time with the squad means a leaky defence may continue to be porous for now.

Only Wolves have conceded more Premier League goals than Leicester's 27 and West Ham will go on the front foot, with the return of Mohammed Kudus an added boost to their already impressive attacking pool.

However, the Hammers' defence has also been creaking recently, conceding 13 goals in their last six league matches and managing just two clean sheets in their last 12 in all competitions.

With both rearguards looking shaky and with potential absences in both defensive united – Caleb Okoli is a doubt for the hosts and Jean-Clair Todibo must be assessed for the visitors – it seems likely the goals will flow.

Julen Lopetegui is still trying to win over the West Ham faithful while Van Nistelrooy will be looking to make a strong first impression, meaning both sides should be up for this clash.

Over 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in seven of the last nine meetings between the pair and both teams can get on the scoresheet in another entertaining encounter.

With the net-bulging action likely to be at a high, it could pay to dip into the goalscorer markets, and West Ham's Tomas Soucek appeals at a big price to get on the scoresheet at the King Power.

The Czech captain has been crucial to the Hammers' rare away successes this season, scoring in their two road wins at Crystal Palace and Newcastle and also grabbing the equaliser in an impressive draw at Brentford.

Soucek's late arrivals into the box could cause problems for a Leicester side who are still learning a new shape under Van Nistelrooy, and his significant aerial threat is another potential route to goal for the Hammers.

Key stat

There have been three or more goals in seven of the last nine meetings between these sides.

Leicester vs West Ham bet builder predictions

Over 2.5 goals
Three of Leicester's last five home matches have featured over 2.5 goals and the same bet looks set to land for the eighth time in ten meetings between these sides.

Tomas Soucek over 0.5 shots
The Czech midfielder has managed four shots in his last two matches against Newcastle and Arsenal and he should find it even easier to get efforts away against struggling Leicester.

Emerson to be booked
The Italian left-back has been booked four times in his last 11 appearances and Leicester have a number of tricky wingers who could cause him issues.
