Ipswich vs Crystal Palace predictions

Ipswich and Crystal Palace boast identical records after 13 Premier League games and it may be honours even when the relegation rivals face off at Portman Road on Tuesday night.

The pair are languishing in the lower reaches of the table after one win, six draws and six defeats, with both registering their sole top-flight success of the season at the expense of Jekyll-and-Hyde side Tottenham.

Ipswich and Palace are becoming tougher to beat but victories continue to evade them, and without that winning mentality it may be difficult for either side to stamp their authority on the crunch clash in Suffolk.

The Tractor Boys go into the game following a 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest on Saturday and they have failed to win any of their opening six top-flight matches in East Anglia.

However, they've played out four draws in that time, including matches against Aston Villa and Manchester United, and they will believe that the visit of Palace represents an opportunity for them to break their home hoodoo.

Palace, meanwhile, remain winless on their travels, although draws at Chelsea, Aston Villa and Wolves highlight their capabilities to grind out results.

After a shaky start, Oliver Glasner’s side have lost only one of their last five league matches and Daniel Munoz struck in injury-time to salvage a 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Saturday.

A point was the least Palace deserved against the Toon – they won the shot count 16-1 – but it was a third stalemate in four outings and, given neither side will want to lose such an important fixture, Tuesday's match could be cagier than we have become accustomed to with Ipswich.

Both teams have scored in nine of the Tractor Boys' last 13 league outings but fixtures with Southampton, Leicester and Everton, three teams who like them and Palace are in the bottom six, have failed to produce more than two goals.

Tuesday's clash could easily follow a similar path, even if having talisman Eberechi Eze back from injury gives the Eagles much greater creativity.

Even at this early stage, a defeat for either side could be potentially damaging to their survival prospects, so backing the draw looks a prudent strategy.

Key stat

Crystal Palace have won only two of their last 19 Premier League away games.

Under 2.5 goals
Five of Palace's last seven league games have stayed under 2.5 goals and this could be another cagey contest given the pair's desperation for points.
