Match preview

Recent results suggest Frank Lampard is working wonders at Chelsea but punters should be cautious of backing the Blues away to Burnley in the Premier League.

A hard-fought 1-0 victory at Ajax on Wednesday extended Chelsea's winning streak to six matches in all competitions but, prior to the trip to Amsterdam, they had hardly been tested during that run.

They won matches they were expected to against Grimsby, Brighton, Lille, Southampton and Newcastle, but showed glimpses of defensive fragility against the Dutch.

Ajax had ten shots in the game, including an effort which rattled the woodwork, after Quincy Promes saw his 35th-minute goal ruled offside by VAR.

Credit must go to Chelsea for the way they have comfortably overcome the challenge of the summer's transfer ban and the way they have bedded in youngsters Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori has been impressive.

But Turf Moor is one of the last places a club coming off a European away game would want to visit.

Burnley's 2-1 defeat to Leicester last time out was a harsh reflection on their performance and the Clarets' home record of three wins in four games is bettered only by Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and the Foxes.

Sean Dyche's men, typically tough to break down, have looked better going forward in this campaign.

The Clarets have won their last two home league fixtures to nil against Norwich and Everton and kept it tight against Liverpool until a bizarre own goal from Chris Wood changed the complexion of the match.

Wood's involvement in this game is uncertain but the return of Ashley Barnes to the squad is a huge boost. The striker top-scored for his side in the league last term with 12 strikes.

Only Newcastle, Watford and Norwich have shipped more goals on the road than Chelsea this season and although the Blues can cause problems for Burnley in the final third, their lack of shape at the back is of concern.

The hosts will not give them an easy ride and backing the teams to share the spoils could be a value bet.

Crucial to Burnley getting something from the game will be disrupting the free-flowing moves of Chelsea's midfield and the visitors will be hampered by the absences of N'Golo Kante and Ross Barkley through injury.

Kurt Zouma has put in some improved performances but Chelsea are still weaker at the back with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen injured, especially against a Burnley team with the third-highest number of aerial duels won per game (22.4) in the league.

Burnley's defenders could therefore be worth a look in the goalscorer markets and James Tarkowski, who netted three times in the league last campaign, could represent each-way value to score first at big prices.

Key stat

Both teams have scored in five of Burnley's last eight league matches.
