Brighton vs Southampton predictions
Fabian Hurzeler insisted he wanted to "challenge the establishment" when he was appointed by Brighton in the summer and his side have the chance to do exactly that on Friday, when a win over south coast rivals Southampton could move them up to second in the Premier League.
The Seagulls have quietly but confidently gone about their business this season, having gone fifth with their 2-1 win over Bournemouth last Saturday.
That win over the Cherries followed a victory by the same scoreline over Manchester City before the international break and their record of six wins, four draws and two defeats is the same as that of Chelsea and Arsenal.
They have drawn with the Gunners and beaten Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle this term and look a more cohesive unit than the team who finished 11th in the Premier League last term.
Joao Pedro and Kaoru Mitoma are excelling in the final third and they should cause problems for a Saints side struggling at the back.
Southampton led table-toppers Liverpool 2-1 until the 63rd minute on Sunday, only to capitulate and lose 3-2 against the highflying Reds.
That was a tenth defeat in 12 league games for Southampton and pressure is mounting on Russell Martin, who is reluctant to veer away from the team's possession-heavy approach.
Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale remains sidelined and his deputy between the sticks Alex McCarthy has conceded five goals in his three appearances after a poor display against Liverpool, while Jan Bednarek's absence at the back is also being felt.
Sitting back and trying to grind out a result is therefore not an appropriate approach for Southampton, who have looked sharper in the final third recently.
Saints have scored in seven of their last ten matches and their second goal against Liverpool was eye-catching.
Teenage ace Tyler Dibling played an excellent long ball over the top to Adam Armstrong, who showed terrific attacking instinct to wrongfoot the Liverpool defence with a turn and pass to goalscorer Mateus Fernandes.
They have scored just nine goals in the Premier League this term but their expected-goals figure is 15.71 and their forwards should draw confidence from their performance against the Merseysiders.
Despite their success this term, Brighton have just three Premier League clean sheets to their name, so a bet on the hosts to win and both teams to score looks the best punting strategy.
Key stat
Both teams have scored in the last seven meetings between Brighton and Southampton.
